I was going to post this in my earlier thread on Lime, but thought I'd do so in a seperate post.
This was posted in a discussion on Lime over on the ghostowns.com discussion forum and these photos of the abandoned cement plant I thought were great. I've driven past this site on two trips to Seattle, but didn't stop to check it out. I'll make it a point to do so next time I'm in the area.
This place looks very interesting. I love old relics of machinery, slowly being reclaimes by Mother Earth. It is something that touches my soul, down deep, and makes me wonder about the people and their lives who lived there so very long ago. If I am ever up this way, I'll certainly stop off here. Great place!! =)
Nice photos. Do you know any of the history of this plant? Looks like they left in a hurry. I was surprised to see those books and papers still around!
It was a Plant operated by the Durkee company. It was closed down from what I understand in the 1980's and relocated to a new plant further up the highway.
I believe it dates back to the 1930's.
It is quite an imposing site as you drive past it along the highway.
